Sharing About Ourselves

The Thoughts and Desires of Our Hearts

One of our deepest needs as individuals is to be understood. In order for others to be able to understand us we need to be willing to share and disclose the thoughts and desires of our hearts. In order to understand others, we need to listen carefully to their thoughts and desires. This aspect of sharing is a vital part of our communication with those who are closest to us: our family and closest friends. In the previous study, we looked at the value of keeping a journal. We may find that others could gain greater insight into our lives if we shared some of the things that we have written in our journal. As we share about some of the processes that God is taking us through, others will be able to have a greater empathy with our situation.

Mistakes and Fears

Many leaders are fearful of sharing about their mistakes and fears as they feel that they will lose respect. However, many that have taken this step have found that they have gained more respect and appreciation from those that they lead. Such disclosure helps the "followers" to understand that you have the same struggles as they do, and keeps them from placing unrealistic expectations upon you.
