5. Developing Our Minds

 Introduction

"Do not let the world around you squeeze you into its mould, but let God remould your minds." (J.B. Phillips)

Battles can be won or lost in the minds of soldiers and their leaders. The sports world has realised the importance of the thinking and attitudes of sportsmen and women. They invest time, energy and finance in order to ensure that they are mentally strong enough to overcome the pressures that they will face. The thinking and attitudes of Christian leaders are also vital for success. Our minds (our thinking, perception, understanding and attitudes) are a crucial part of who we are, and hence our effectiveness as leaders.

The study 'Becoming An Effective Leader' highlighted the importance of investing in four areas of private disciplines in order to increase our public effectiveness: our spiritual, mental, relational and physical lives. This study continues this theme by investigating what it means to develop our minds.
