The primary purpose of this worksheet is to enable you to process the study material to give you a deeper understanding of the main principles. Therefore, it is important that you work through the worksheet with a thoughtful, reflective attitude.

The Importance of the Spiritual Life

  • Complete the exercise on page 2. Take a few moments to reflect on your personal time with God. Are you experiencing the kind of spiritual life that is expressed by the words of Jesus? If not, what do you need to do to enjoy the kind of spiritual life that you deeply desire?

A Strategy for Our Spiritual Life

  • An effective strategy for developing the spiritual life should incorporate some private disciplines. Identify 3 effective Biblical leaders not mentioned in the study who developed a dynamic spiritual life through the application of some private disciplines. Which disciplines did they practise?
  • Review the learning process from study 1.1 "Effective Leaders are Learners". In what ways could you benefit from a practical strategy to help you develop your spiritual life? How are you benefiting from the support, encouragement and accountability of others?

A Time and a Place

  • Having a regular time and place for our devotions is essential. Evaluate your own devotional routine to see whether you have an appropriate time and place.  What challenges do you have in maintaining a regular time and place for your personal time with God?

Practising Spiritual Disciplines

  • It is important we develop a balanced devotional life. Which areas of the 5 step strategy do you consider an area of strength? Which areas would you like to improve? What practical steps can you take to develop these areas?

Making a Commitment

  • Complete the exercise on page 5 of the study and write down the commitment that you are prepared to make. Remember to "Start Small"!
