Jesus' Driving Ambition

By james - Posted on 23 March 2009

Jesus had a consuming passion to do the Father's will. At the heart of His ministry was a deeply rooted commitment to be who the Father wanted Him to be, and to do what the Father wanted Him to do. It was this driving ambition that directed every decision and motivated every action.

"For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me." (John 6:38)

This sense of mission and purpose was something that Jesus was aware of, even from a young age. When he was twelve he said to his parents, "Didn't you know that I had to be in My Father's house?" (Luke 2:41-50). Already he was speaking of God as "my Father", already he knew that he had a mission to perform and a purpose to fulfil. His Father's will was central to his thinking and his actions.
